Band Performances
Tonalta
bands played recently at Port Neches Riverfest, Relay for Life, Nederland Heritage Festival, Logon Cafe, the National
Night Out, and the Texas Pecan Festival in Groves.

Co-sponsors Night and Day Orchestra Event:
First United Methodist Church of Nederland, in
conjunction with Tonalta School of Music, recently
presented an evening of jazz and swing featuring The
Night and Day Orchestra, an area big band from
Beaumont, Texas.

Heroes performed "The Only Exception" on the Morning Show and
Tonalta instructor Daniel Sharpless
was interviewed about Tonalta's Get-In-The-Band camp. Great job

RiverFest Tonalta bands
played May 5 at
RiverFest! Thanks to all those who
came out to support us!

Heritage Festival Two Tonalta bands
participated in Battle of the Bands and all Tonalta Bands performed on the main
stage at the Nederland Heritage Festival.
It was a great experience for everyone. Thanks

Tonalta bands
perform at Musical Family Day at the Stark Museum
of Art
Tonalta bands recently performed in in Orange. It was all part of
Musical Family Day.
It was great fun for the entire family.
Tonalta teachers also provided instruction to the
public in drums, keyboard, bass guitar, and guitar.

Tonalta Jamfest
Tonalta bands took the stage in and
performed at JamFest. JamFest is
Tonalta's end-of-semester concert for
bands and was held in the Auditorium at
Groves Elementary. It was a great show!

FOEHS recording in studio The
Tonalta band For Our Eyes Have Seen completed
recording sessions in the
studio at Lamar State College - Port Arthur. The
recording sessions were part of the the prize
package the band won in Lamar's Battle of the Band
contest in the spring. They also appeared
in concert in Port Arthur Live! as part of
Lamar's Commercial Music and Recording Arts concert series.

Jim talked about Tonalta's Children's Music Camp and
other events at Tonalta.

from Tonalta. Carl Richardson was interviewed
by Dan Gresham and the Tonalta band

Tonalta bands
take 1 & 2 in Lamar Port Arthur's Battle
of the Bands
congratulations to the bands Seaweed and For Our
Eyes Only for taking 1st and 2nd place in Lamar Port
Arthur's Battle of the Bands. The bands win
recording time in LSCPA studio, featured
performances in Lamar's Fall Concerts, and
scholarships for all the band members who elect to
enroll at LSCPA.

Beau is a former student of Tonalta's and is
now studying music at Loyola, in New Orleans. This
recording has over 10000 views on YouTube and was
featured by Eric Whitacre on his web page!
If you haven't heard of
Eric Whitacre's and his Virtual Choir it is
pretty cool. At Tonalta, Beau studied vocals
and keyboard and was in the Tonalta performance band
Allynce . We are very proud of you Beau!

Bands in Relay for Life and Riverfest:
three
Tonalta bands entertained the crowd recently in Relay for Life in Nederland and eight Tonalta
bands participated the next day in RiverFest in Port Neches.

Bands in Heritage Festival:
Four Tonalta bands, For Our Eyes Have Seen, Seaweed,
6-Inch Shadows, and Flashback recently performed in
the Nederland Heritage Festival's Battle of the
Bands. Seaweed took home 3rd place in a
very competitive field. Congratulations
Seaweed and all those who participated.
It was a great experience for all our kids, and
thanks to everyone who came out and supported the
bands.

Tonalta Teaches
Lamar State College - Port Arthur Discovery
Classes
This past summer (and as in past summers), Tonalta
assisted Lamar Port Arthur with their Discovery
program.
Tonalta instructors Jon-Michael Wallace and Tyler
Henderson
taught
the Discovery music classes and Tonalta provided
the curriculum, gear, and instruments. During
the week-long program, students learn the basics of
guitar, keyboard, and drums, and, at the end of the
week, they recorded a music video of the class
playing as a band.
